Ash (scientific Fraxinus excelsior) is a tree common to most of Europe.

Hard wearing, it makes good tool handles and longbows. It begins life as a very pale wood, and darkens to a warm yellow colour.

The wood sold in Australia as Mountain Ash (or Tasmanian Oak) is not an actual Ash, rather it is a species of Eucalyptus.
