A carnivorous mammal that looks like a large dog. A wolf is a moderately common heraldic charge.

Once common in medieval Europe they are now mostly gone. The last wolves disappeared from English lands since the medieval era and the last wolf in Scotland was shot in 1745.

Wolves hunt in small hierarchical 'packs', led generally by an Alpha Male. Packs will establish their own territory and will normally only hunt outside this when in specific and immediate pursuit of a prey.
