In SCA wars, non-combatants are people who are out on the field but cannot engage in combat with anyone on the field. They can be killed as a light and must comply to minimum light armour standards. To become authorised as a non-combatant, you must be over the minimum combat age for your kingdom and know the rules of the list.
Being a non-combatant is the best way to enjoy a war and get a feel for it without actually having to do much at all!
Types of non-combatants:
- Banner Bearer (particularly in Lochac for which the term is often used exclusively)
- Scout
- Water Bearer (In Ansteorra waterbearers must be non-combat authorised to water bear on the field during melee/resurection battles)
The term is also used to refer to spectators or members of the populace who aren't directly involved in wars or tournaments.
