In a number of kingdoms in the SCA, admittance to the Order of the Rose is offered to those who have served as Queen Consort (and to date, the single King Consort). This Order is treated differently from kingdom to kingdom, but the Order usually confers a Patent of Arms. In some kingdoms, such as Æthelmearc, the Order of the Rose is a polling order.
Technically, having served as Queen is no guarantee of being inducted into the Order; Queen Caitlin of the Midrealm was denied induction in a controversial decision in A.S. XVI; she was later inducted into the Order when she completed a second reign as Queen in A.S. XXVI.
In most kingdoms, however, induction is seen as being automatic, an example of a tradition that has taken the force of law.
