History of the Trouvères

The Trouvère was the Northern French equivalent of the troubadour from Occitania. The first recorded trouvères became active some sixty years after Guilhem de Peitieu, who is regarded as the first troubadour.

Poetic Style

The trouvères took the poetic styles of the troubadours, and added a modest number of new forms.
