The Sixth Crusade was undertaken by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II in 1228. The crusade aimed to retake Jerusalem and unlike previous crusades, did not have the blessing of the pope. Traveling to Jerusalem by way of Cyprus, Frederick was able to negotiate surrender of part of Jerusalem and gain other land concessions, despite being the inferior military force. Jerusalem was captured by the Turks in 1244.
