Herbs are plants grown for their strong taste/smell/active ingredients. Culinary herbs are used to flavour food. Other herbs may be used medinially, or in a variety of household uses (eg insect repellant).
Many herbs can be grown quite easily from a cutting or seed. They are fairly tough plants, so this can be a great place to start your garden - many people will be happy to give you cuttings from the more common herbs.
