Turkish is an Altaic language mainly spoken around Turkey. Until the 20th century it was written using the Arabic alphabet. It had three main developments:
- Old Turkish (13th - 15th century)
- Middle Turkish (16th - 18th century)
- Modern Turkish
Its "golden era" came after the capture of Constantinople in 1453.
