In the 16th century, warfare had dramatically changed from the medieval era. Firearms had made their impact on the battlefield and standing armies were widely used. The "all arms" approach to warfare and the Spanish square were the most effective changes in this century.

This guide leans heavily toward a Spanish depiction.
