The Huscarls are an Australian re-enactment group located in Newcastle, NSW.
They focus on the Saxons of Dark Age Britain. Early in the history of the group, their members attended a number of SCA events and still maintain some contact.
They have been active as a group since approximately 1990. In recent years they have become very expansionist, with numerous borroughs popping up all over Australia.
The Huscarls focus more on living history activities than some groups, leading to some to say they are a more virtual club, mainly appearing just before major events. They are however very active behind the scenes and are well known for their numerous woolen tents.
The Huscarls once enjoyed a kind of rivalry with Fire and Steel but this has since disapated. Recently a joint Fire and Steel/Huscarl effort has brought archery into the beginnings of general melee at NEMAS' Easter Gathering.
