The Shire of Mynydd Gwyn, which is Welsh for 'White Mountain', was founded by Baron Umberto Lodovico Scolari and Barwnes Rhieinwen Cyfarwydd ferch Angharad in 2000.

The shire covers the whole of Wales and the West of England. It has gained full shire status in March 2004. It is part of the Crown Principality of Insulae Draconis.
