A veil is a cloth covering a woman's head and/or face. In period Europe, the practice of wearing a veil originated with Christian practice of covering one's head while in Church, as a sign of respect. In Europe and in parts of Asia and the Middle East, wearing a veil was a symbol of modesty, humility and chastity.
