Gaul was an ancient region in western Europe, including parts of Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Germany. Gallic people were considered ethnically and linguistically Celtic. Organized by tribes, the Gauls famously sacked Rome in the 4th century BC.
