According to Thoinot Arbeau in Orchesography, a double left as performed in the Burgundian Branle consists of a pied gauche largi, a pied droit approché, another pied gauche largi, and either a grève droite or a pied en l'air droit. In other words a step to the left, a step with the right foot bringing the feet almost together, a step to the left, and then a forward kick with the right leg while bouncing on the left.
