This is the entry for pennyroyal from Maplet's A Greene Forest.
Of Penroyall.
Penroyall of some Chrusitis and others Jupiters Beard: of others it is thought to be a kind of Calamint. It hath lockes verie like ysope: The Greekes amongst them by their maner of name and worde giving (as we may interpret) seeme to call it golden Hearbe. His roote is a great binder, & causeth exessive heate. Plinie commendeth for this one thing above all other herbs: For that it being hung up in the larderhouse, either by branch, or otherwise, in the midst and depth of Winter, yet for all that buddeth forth his yelow and golden flower.
