Harness

Harness is a term used to describe a full suit of armour. Typically it applies to plate harness.

A typically mid to late 15th century harness would include:

• helmet (typically a sallet, barbute or armet - head
• bevor - throat
• standard - neck and throat
• pauldrons or spaulders - shoulders
• breastplate - chest
• back plate - back
• plackart - abdomen
• fauld - waist
• tassets - upper thigh
• cuisses - thighs
• poleyns with wings - knees
• greaves - lower legs
• sabatons - feet
• gauntlets - hands
• vambraces - forearms
• couters with wings - elbows
• rerebraces - upper arms
