An average purse contained about 125 deniers or 10 sous....("average" ! I don't think so. 125d (125 pennies) is a large sum of money. What group of people are you talking about?) Travellers carried larger sums of money strapped around the waist in a special moneybelt. (Holmes 1952, p54)
