In the SCA, the title Viceroy and the female version, Vicereine, have two known usages.
- They are the unofficial titles used for the figureheads of a Crown Principality. The unofficial nature of this title means that it has no precedence or form of address. Being simply local representatives of the Crown, the heads of a Crown Principality are not permitted to wear a coronet of any kind.
- Viceroy and/or Vicereine is also the title used for the ruling Territorial Nobility of the Crown Province of Ostgardr, in the East Kingdom, a group unique in the SCA with many special grandfathered rights, privileges and weirdnesses. The Viceroy/Vicereine of Ostgardr are treated in all ways as Barons/Baronesses and have precedence as the senior landed nobility of the East Kingdom. The rulers of the Crown Province are not entitled to wear a coronet by virtue of their office but are traditionally granted Court Baronies at or around their investiture if they do not already have them.
The feminine form, "Vicereine", appears to be an SCAism.
