A Countess is the female title that is equivalent to a Count or and Earl. It is also the title used by the wife of a Count or Earl.
Countess in the SCA
In the SCA, the title Countess is awarded to someone who has completed a reign over a kingdom. The honorific for a countess is "Your Excellency". After a second reign, they are awarded the title Duchess. In some kingdoms a Countess will also be a Lady of the Rose.
