Edmund Ironside's luck can be gauged by the fact that he married a Danish widow, Algitha (or Edith, or Ealdgyth), had a son (Edward Atheling) by her who spent his life in exile, was then murdered by his wife's brother, leaving a second son born postumously, who vanishes from history. He was also another of those betrayed by Eadric Streona, his brother-in-law.
But he was probably a nice man really (Edmund, not Eadric).
