In the SCA a polling order is an order into which admission is recommended by its membership. The Order of the Laurel, Order of the Pelican, Order of Chivalry and Order of Defense are all polling orders, however the Crown ultimately has final say as to who is and is not admitted.
Various kingdoms have other awards which are designated as polling orders. Notably, the White Scarf is a polling order.
