In the SCA, everyone has the opportunity to register a unique device. When a device is submitted for registration in the SCA, it is conflict checked against all other devices and badges that have ever been registered, and those of the mundane world that are considered significant enough to protect. A similar exercise occurs for any badges submitted. This review process is done within the SCA College of Arms. The registration of SCA devices does not prevent similar or identical devices being registered with mundane Colleges of Arms by anyone.
Generally, an SCA device must be judged to have at least two points of difference between it and any other device.
