A Master at Arms is a peer of the Order of Chivalry who does not swear fealty to the throne. Masters at arms are at least as common as Knights in the Chivalry of the SCA, as there are many who are uncomfortable swearing fealty on a regular basis.

Masters at arms are styled "Sir", like a Knight, and wear a white baldric instead of a white belt and chain.
