Arrow mesh is worn by combat archers and heavies during mixed battles or all-light battles. It is simply wire mesh which covers the face plate of the helm to stop arrows penetrating through the openings of the helm.
It is worn by members of the SCA and some re-enactment groups, but is disdained by others because of its non-historic appearance. The benefit is that it allows archers a bigger role in combat once a battle has begun.
