Mew

A mew is a cage or building for hawks and falcons, especially when they are "mewing" (i.e. moulting their feathers). The English royal falconer is still called the Master of the Mews.

"The Mews" is the name of the London stables which are built on the original site of the royal falconer's mews. From this was derived the term "mews" to refer to a set of stables or a street of buildings that were once stables.
