The foundations for Burgundian music were laid by the organisation of the chapel in 1384 by Philip the Bold. The surviving music is almost all choral, with the notable exception of the music for the basse dances. Masses were the main occupation of the Burgundian composer, but most had a large number of secular chansons to their credit. Notable composers of this period are Antoine Busnois, Guillaume du Fay and Gilles Binchois.
