The Shire of West Dragoningshire is the oldest shire in the Crown Principality of Insulae Draconis. Insula Draconis was its name but the shire offered it to the Region and became West Dragoningshire.

The shire covers the southern counties of England with its main centers focused around Southampton, Basingstoke and Brighton.

Some of its members came out of the Far Isles Medieval Society, itself a former SCA branch, which went independent, but which still exists in London, the South East, and other parts of the UK.
