Roleplaying or Role Playing Games are often divided into two types:

  • Table-top roleplaying - where you describe the actions of your character, and tasks are often resolved through the use of dice, eg. Dungeons and Dragons.
  • Live roleplaying or Live Action Role Playing - where you physically act out the character, eg. LARP

Roleplaying is used in the commercial world as a training mechanism which places employees in various roles and scenarios. This is live roleplaying.
