A parrying gauntlet is a sturdy glove that can safely grasp a sharp sword, used in combination with a rapier or dagger to catch/block the opponent's blade while fencing. The protection can extend right up to the elbows.

The humble butcher's glove is the most often-used style in the SCA due to its availability and well-tested safety.
