The branle Poitou (or Branle de Poitou) is found in Orchesography by Thoinot Arbeau. It is reputed to have been danced by the Poitevans. The music is in 3/4 timing and there are many instrumental pieces from 16th century France called Branle de Poitou.

Steps Used

Choreography

As with all branles, this dance is performed in a line of people holding hands or, if enough people are present, a circle. It is not necessary for the dancers to be paired into couples.
