A joust pits two mounted combatants against each other where they attempt to knock their opponent off their horse with a lance. In mid to late period, jousting was a common part of the large tournaments. Armour was developed specifically to hold the lance better and protect the wearer from the opponent's lance. This included mounting points, new helmets and new shield designs.
