Green is a colour between blue and yellow in the light spectrum. In heraldry green is referred to as vert.

Contrary to popular misconception, good green fabrics were hard to produce. Good green dye was obtained by dyeing a fabric first with yellow dye, then with blue dye.

Green pigments (paints) were easier to obtain using toxic copper salts (vitriol).
