A cleaver is a heavy-bladed weapon, typically a knife. The cleaver is designed primarily for chopping rather than cutting and usually features a relatively unsharpended edge for strength.

The shape of the blade is can be much broader (sometimes almost square) than a regular knife. Halberds often have blades that are described as being cleaver-like.
