Period brown

relrico I am told that, in period, the colour formed by mixing red dye and blue dye (eg overdyeing madder with woad) was considered to be brown. Thus, when looking for period dye receipies, don't be surprised if there are no mentions to burgundy, maroon or wine coloured fabrics, and there are mentions of fancy recipes for brown.
