Sword position

Sword positions refers simply to the way a sword is held in the hand when adopting a ward or a counter. There are four basic sword positions given for single handed swords noted from fechtbucher and thus used when fighting using historical swordfighting techniques.

They are:

• First position
• Second position
• Third position
• Fourth position

These names may also be given in Italian or French depending on the source of the swordfighting tradition or the pomposity of the speaker.
