Runestone

Runestones are monumental stones raised by the Norse peoples, usually commonly carved with artwork and distinctive Norse runes. These stones were often monuments to great warriors or used to mark battlefields.

In the SCA The Runestone refers to a small, carved limestone block about halfway up Cardiac Hill at Cooper's Lake. The stone, located beneath pleasantly shaded trees, marks the traditional "defender's line" on the old Pennsic battlefield, now used for camping.

The inscription on the Runestone, now badly deteriorated, is a reminder to SCAdians to fight with chivalry and honour.

Many people leave offerings at the Runestone and treat it with great reverence. At the 35th Pennsic War a considerable area of open space was left clear around the Runestone and marked "Runestone Park" on the map.
