Scientific method

Scientific method describe a series of steps used by scientists in order to collect data about the world. Roger Bacon and Albertus Magnus are seen as the fathers of this approach.

It consists of four steps:

• Observing and describing some phenomena.
• Developing a hypothesis to explain the phenomena.
• Making predictions using the hypothesis.
• Testing the hypothesis via experimentation.

Before the introduction of scientific method, experiments and studies of the natural world might take the form of thought experiments where a hypothesis might be developed based on some observation but not tested.
