Spurge is the common name for the genus Euphorbia, which contains about 2 000 different plants. The sap (white latex) is a purgative, and most plants of this genus are poisonous.

Pill-bearing spurge (Euphorbia hirta) is regarded as a safe herb for medicinal purposes, and is used for resperatory ailments.
