A manuscript (Latin manu scriptus meaning "written by hand"), strictly speaking, is any written document that is put down by hand, in contrast to being printed or reproduced some other way.
Period Manuscripts
In period many manuscripts were produced on vellum or parchment. Their production stopped, for the large part, with the invention of the Printing Press.
Manuscripts in the SCA
The production of Manuscripts is widely practiced in the SCA with many people devoting a lot of time to the production of elaborate Illuminations.
