Spong is the name for the member without portfolio on the council of the College of St Monica. It is often treated as a first year representative post.
The name was chosen in whimsical response to the presence of the position "Thing" on the council of Fome, the Fantasy and Science Fiction club at Monash University. For a short time in the nineties, the term "spong" was dropped in favour of the more period word "page".
