In the SCA, uttering the word "Clear!" in a loud, clear voice is a way of warning others that you are bearing live steel. Using the word "clear" is a required safety measure and a courtesy to others, but is not a replacement for common sense.

It is generally not required to call "clear" when drawing your eating knife while sitting at table.

For Australian re-enactment groups such a term is not deemed necessary.
