Headwear refers to an article of clothing worn on the head. It may be a hat, cap, coif, hood or otherwise.

Head coverings are almost always present in medieval images of everyday life (particularly for males). The few exceptions seem to for monks (although this may be a convention to shows that the individual is a monk) and some labourers when engaged in heavy labour.

An oft-sited criticism of many historical recreations (both in Hollywood and recreation groups) is the lack of headwear.
