Brass (Metal)
Brass is an alloy of copper, and zinc. Technically brass made before the 18th century is called calamine brass as it is made by melting copper with the zinc ore, calamine.

Monumental brasses are latten (sheet brass) plates that have a sepulchral images engraved into the surface. They were generally produce between the 13th to the beginning of the 17th century. England posess a great many of these at one stage it was very popular for individuals to make copies of them by placing a sheet of paper over one and rubbing them with graphite, wax or chalk.
