The Bible is the Christian sacred text. It comes in two parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The New Testament is based on a story that God sent his son to earth approx 2000 years ago.

It has many fables and stories, and lots of names and a set of moral values to live by, including 'love thy neighbour' and 'do unto others'.

Before the advent of printing, the common person had little access to the text of the Bible. Monks would scribe copies for use by the clergy or the nobility, but they would commonly be in church Latin, rather than the native language. They also had to be be well protected due to their rarity, so don't be surprised if you see paintings that include bibles chained down to the pulpit in a church.
