Period cooking styles vary from region to region and were, for the most part, dictated by locally available ingredients.

Food and feasting was a big part of period life. Large festivals held to celebrate major (and minor) events would usually involve a feast.

Making period foods doesn't have to be hard. Most ingredients can be found at your local supermarket.

There are certain things that aren't period foods, such as potatoes (which will come as a surprise to some), tomatoes, eggplant and chocolate. A list of other foods that aren't period are listed under new world foods.
