The Non Member Surcharge or NMS is an additional charge (currently $3 US) for attendance at SCA events in USA territories administered by the SCA BOD, (that is, not those covered by SCAA, SCANZ or SKA. It is added to the site fee for the event and is paid only by those who are not members of the SCA. The funds from the NMS go directly to the SCA corporate office. Such a charge is the subject of some strong feelings both pro and con. It is an outgrowth of the "pay to play" issue that arose in the early 90s.
