Escallop can refer to both the scallop, an edible shellfish, or the iconic scallop shell. The escallop is seen frequently through the Middle Ages, both as a heraldic charge and a religious symbol. The scallop shell is the pilgrim badge given to those who visit the shrine of St. James of Compostella in Spain.
