Gules is the heraldic term for red. According to The Blazon of Gentrie it signifies the following:

- Precious Stones: Coral, Carbuncle, Ruby
- Virtues: Charity and Magnanimity
- Celestial signs: Aries and Cancer
- Months: March, June, July
- Days of the Week: Tuesday
- Ages of Man: Virility, or mans age from thirty years til forty
- Flowers: gillofer and red rose
- Elements: Fire
- Seasons of the Year: Summer and Harvest
- Complexions: Choler
- Numbers: 3, 10
- Metals: Latten
