Plate Armour is made from a variety of different metals which are cut and worked into shape on a variety of dishing forms and with several different styles of hammers.
Metal can be worked by heating and then beating or bending it into shape or alternatively it can be some worked cold. It's a little harder and doesn't allow you to do some things that you could with the heat.
A complete outfit of plate armour was known as harness.
