Sword and Board is an SCAism referring to the most common fighting style in the SCA, that is to say, "sword and shield".

Often this is the first style taken up by a new fighter, although it is not actually required that they do so at the Society level, although individual Kingdoms may have more restrictive rules.

Fighters, even experienced ones with other authorisations, often fight "sword and board", particularly in tournaments.
